With gratitude for a life well lived and a spirit that touched so many, we share the passing of Ronald Edward Shaw, who departed from this world on August 3, 2026. Born on May 16, 1949, in the thriving city of Newark, New Jersey, Ronald's journey was one marked by devotion—to family, to country, and to his community.

From the earliest days of his youth, Ronald displayed an indomitable zest for life, an easy smile, and an infectious laugh that drew others to him. He graduated from Essex County Vocational and Technical High School in June of 1967, shaping for himself a strong foundation rooted in determination and hard work. This drive inspired those around him, showing friends and family alike that the path forward, no matter how challenging, could be walked with dignity and pride.

Shortly after his graduation, Ronald answered the call of his country and served with distinction in the United States Air Force, achieving the rank of Senior Airman E-4 and bravely serving in Vietnam. His time in uniform was a mark of his deep sense of purpose and loyalty. Even after his service, Ronald remained connected to fellow veterans, holding membership in the Albert Lawson Memorial VFW Post 10117 in Passaic, New Jersey—a community of camaraderie that no doubt felt the warmth of his presence and the reassurance of his steadfast friendship.

In his professional life, Ronald built a lasting career at Wake Fern Food Corporation, where he retired after years of dedicated work. Colleagues recall his dependability, positive spirit, and that special ability to make others feel seen and appreciated. Ronald’s greatest delight was found in the company of loved ones, where smiles came easily and every day brimmed with laughter.

It was within the embrace of family, however, that Ronald’s true legacy flourished. A man deeply attuned to the rhythm of kinship, he was the very soul of family gatherings—his laughter echoing through the halls, his gentle guidance always available, his love both quiet and steadfast. To him, nothing was more precious than time spent with those he loved, especially his grandchildren, who will forever carry the joyous memories of his presence.

Ronald is survived by his beloved wife, Lois Shaw, whose companionship and love were his greatest treasures. Together they built a remarkable life and nurtured a family whose bonds remain unbreakable. He lives on in the hearts of his son, Jermaine Rhodes, and daughter-in-law, Artrena Rhodes; his cherished daughter, Tahara Rhodes; his adored granddaughters, Amiyah, Samia, Tia, Brittni, and Breyonna; his grandsons, Ameer, & Willie; and his beloved great-grandchildren, Shyairh, Jai'elle, & Jessiah. He is also mourned by his sister, SGT. Janis Shaw, who shared in the laughter and enduring memories that defined their bond.

Ronald is now reunited with James Shaw and Ethel Shaw, who preceded him in death. Their spirits, woven into the tapestry of his life, will find comfort in his presence once more.

Among Ronald’s proudest accomplishments was simply being there: as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, family member, and friend. He will be remembered always for his unwavering support, his joyful stories, and the way in which he reminded all who knew him of the simple pleasures found in togetherness. Friends and family are invited to celebrate Ronald’s extraordinary life at a public viewing and visitation on August 9, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Serenity Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Hinesville, GA, located at 454 South Main St, Hinesville, GA 31313. The funeral service will follow the next morning, August 10, 2026, beginning at 10:00 AM at the same location. Ronald will be laid to rest with military honors at Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery-Glennville, 8819 US-301, Glennville, GA 30427, at 1:00 PM that day.
